SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Record high temperatures were shattered this week as Thursday and Friday, brought the temperature scale up a few degrees.
Sacramento Executive Airport broke records June 17 and 18 with 107° and 109° respectively. The previous records were 103° and 108°.
A rare heat wave spanning at least 7 states in the western U.S. has caused record high temperature, power outages, wildfires, and air quality concerns.
An excessive heat warning was issued by the NWS starting Wednesday, June 16 through Saturday, June 19; each day expecting triple-digit heat.
A high-pressure system over the desert southwest has seen very little movement or interruptions by atmospheric low pressure. This has helped the high pressure build and expand over the area.
The Willow Fire near Big Sur, in Monterey County, has caused an evacuation order and burned 2,000 acres as of Friday night. The Arroyo Seco recreation area and campsites have been closed and refunded according to their Facebook page.
Although no warnings are issued for heat Sunday, temperatures are expected in the low 100s. Monday cooler temperatures are expected in the low 90s to upper 80s through the week.
The cooler temperatures won’t be sticking around very long. More 100+ degree temperatures are possible by next weekend June 25.
