SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Red Flag Warning will be in effect for the Sacramento Valley, Northern San Joaquin Valley, lower Sierra Foothills, Carquinez Strait and Delta Monday and Tuesday.
Gusty winds and low humidity will lead to easier fire starts and potentially faster fire spread. Outdoor burning is not recommended during the critical fire weather period.
Wind gusts will reach up to 35 mph with the strongest gusts on Monday. Humidity will only be 5%-15% during the day and only come up to 30-55% overnight.
The biggest risk area will be on the west side of the valley, mainly along and west of Interstate 5.

However, a fire doesn't start without a spark, and some the greatest risks for fires right now are grassland areas.
Mowing and weeding before 10 a.m. or postponing yard work until after the critical fire weather period is recommended.
ABC10 covered a fire started by mowing on Saturday when a blade hit a rock and destroyed part of a property in North Highland. People also shouldn't mow dry grass or weeds since any metal hitting rocks could start a fire.
During the holiday weekend and big travel periods, pay special attention to dragging vehicle parts and chains when towing. Also, people should properly dispose of cigarettes and matches. The lower elevations are drying quickly and gusty winds can carry a fire quickly across a large area.
