SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — An area of low pressure moving through Northern California Monday is bringing rain and snow to the area and, at higher elevations, strong bumpy conditions.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a "SIGMET" warning for the Sierra.
The warning is for severe turbulence between 31,000 and 39,000 ft. over the Central and Southern sections of the Sierra. This might impact commercial air travel to or from Sacramento, the Bay Area, or the Central Valley on East/West routes that need to cross this section of the Sierra.
This type of warning is issued to warn pilots of the weather threat. One pilot report has seen "moderate" turbulence in the morning. The warning will last into the early afternoon Monday.
