SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Northern California just experienced its hottest summer on record, and the hits keep coming.
There's been 48 days with temperatures 100 degrees or hotter in Sacramento so far, but there could be a few more that would extend that record. In a normal year, Sacramento has 24 days of triple digit heat, so this year it's been doubled.
Thursday was exceptionally hot and tied or broke some all-time heat records for October. Sacramento has a downtown record-keeping location. They hit 103 degrees Thursday, breaking the previous all-time record high of 102 for October, which was tied Wednesday. Stockton and Modesto tied all-time October records with 105, and 105 respectively.
Friday will still be hot, but not as hot. A heat advisory was to 11 p.m. Sunday for hot temperatures well above the average for this time of year.
The coastal range and Bay Area will see widespread 100-degree temperatures in the valley and 100+ temperatures. San Francisco could top 92 degrees, which would be the hottest day in two years. For the foothills, upper 90s will be the forecast and 80s for the Sierra.
Since this is so hot for October, it's worth looking at records. Here are some numbers of note:
