FAIRFIELD, Calif. — With more rain on the way, Fairfield officials aren't taking any chances in making people aware of the dangers.
"Lake Curry right now is at about 375 feet. It will overspill at 377 feet," said Jennifer Brantley, spokesperson for the Fairfield Police Department.
Brantley said the city is expecting moderate to heavy rain this weekend, meaning it could cause overspill at Lake Curry to be very likely.
"When that happens, it will flow into Suisun Creek and then there will be flooding at Suisun Creek. So that evacuation warning is for everyone within one-fourth of a mile from the creek," said Brantley.
Areas that would be impacted include the Vines on 80 apartments, the Verdant at Green Valley Apartments and residents at Thomasson Lane.
If the evacuation warning becomes an order, then people will have to move quickly to leave.
"It's always a good idea to be over-prepared versus under-prepared, so take it seriously," said Brantley. "You have family that you care about - young children, maybe elderly parents - you want to make sure that they're safe."
Evacuation is not mandatory at this point, but if the current evacuation warning becomes an order, then Fairfield police might be knocking on doors and asking people to evacuate.
