EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. — The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for part of El Dorado County Saturday afternoon amid heavy rain in the area.
The area is just north of Kirkwood and roughly 349 people are impacted. Anyone in the area is strongly encouraged by officials to move immediately to higher ground and avoid walking or driving through flood waters.
"Thunderstorms generating heavy rain and potential hail accumulations will continue through the remainder of the afternoon across the northern Sierra Nevada crest regions," according to NWS.
California Highway Patrol officials are reporting a mudslide on Highway 50 near Strawberry.
The warning will expire around 6:45 p.m., according to NWS.
The warning comes shortly after a special weather statement was issued for the same area around 3 p.m. NWS said then that people could expect pea sized hail and winds up to 30 mph.
