Funnel cloud spotted over Suisun City as thunderstorms roll over Northern California

Unstable weather led to hail, flash flooding, lightning strikes and funnel clouds.

SUISUN CITY, Calif. — A funnel cloud was spotted over Suisun City Wednesday afternoon.

A photo of the funnel cloud was captured at 2:49 p.m. off Peabody Road in Vacaville by Kevin Reynolds. He said heavy rain followed shortly after he saw the funnel cloud.

A funnel cloud that touches the ground is considered a tornado. No reports of tornadic activity were spotted. A spokesperson for the National Weather Service said they haven't received any reports of damage or a touchdown at this time.

The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement Wednesday afternoon for thunderstorm activity. Warnings of pea sized hail with strong winds were issued until 3:30 p.m.

A low pressure system offshore heading to Los Angeles is combining with warmer temperatures now, causing unstable weather activity to form Wednesday. Thunderstorms are expected to slow down after sunset.
