Likely last 100 degree day this year | Weather Impact Alert Day

Sacramento has 24 days of triple-digit heat in a normal year. It's been doubled this year.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Northern California just experienced its hottest summer on record and the start of fall has been very hot, too.

There's been 49 days with temperatures 100 degrees or hotter in Sacramento so far, and there could be one more that would further extend the record. In a normal year, Sacramento has 24 days of triple-digit heat, so this year it's been doubled.

Sunday saw most places hit 100 degrees but downtown Sacramento narrowly missed the mark and only hit 99 degrees. It was 99 Saturday as well keeping the 100 degree days to four so far this month. The record of five was set back in 1980.

Monday will still be hot, but not as hot. A heat advisory goes to 11 p.m. Monday for hot temperatures well above the average for this time of year.

It's important to mention that due to the shorter days much less time is spent in the hot zone. For example, only two hours Monday will be spent at 100 degrees. During the summer, many more hours are near that temperature on a hot day.

Foothill temperatures will be in the 90s along with some Bay Area locations. San Francisco will start to cool with highs in the 80s versus the 90s it experienced all weekend.

Since this is so hot for October, it's worth looking at records. Here are some numbers of note:

DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO

MONDAY: Normal: 83/55 | Records: 100 / 65

Average last 100° day (since 1990): September 15

Latest last 100° day (since 1990): October 10, 1991

SACRAMENTO EXECUTIVE

STOCKTON AIRPORT
