CALIFORNIA, USA — People in Northern California have been rushing to stock up on supplies to prepare for the first major storm of the season.
Shovels flew off the shelves as the Ace mountain hardware store was packed with customers getting last minute supplies. It was all in preparation for the Sierra to once again transform itself into a winter wonderland
While it’s a lovely time of year when fresh snow hits the region, travel conditions can get ugly.
The storm from just a few weeks back caught many drivers off guard.
"We're hoping that it goes a little smoother this time around now that it's the second storm of the season. But our folks are ready. We're staffed 24/7, so we'll be on 12-hour shifts starting tonight all up the highways on 80 and 50," said Steve Nelson, Caltrans spokesperson.
The mountain pass will be dangerous and at times impassable. The California Office of Emergency Management said to be weather aware as the winter storm will impact most of the state with snow and rain.
Even before the first flakes hit, the roads were icy and visibility was poor.
