'Absolutely crazy' | Wild weather causes dangerous conditions in San Joaquin County

Power lines fell on cars in Escalon, along with power outages across San Joaquin County

MANTECA, Calif. — Along roadways throughout San Joaquin County, gusty winds mixed with rain made driving treacherous.

"I think it's absolutely crazy," said Adam Seligman, pumping gas at the Power Market gas station in Lathrop.

Seligman, who lives in Lathrop, witnessed the perils of dangerous driving in Modesto while he was behind the wheel.

"There was an accident right in front of me where the car had to swerve off to the side. It hydroplaned and actually kept twirling around in circles," added Seligman.

Dangerous winds caused power lines to fall across the county.

In the Escalon area, power lines came crashing down on Highway 120 between the areas of McHenry Avenue and Brennan Road, according to the Escalon Police Department.

The lines fell on vehicles, but there were no injuries reported. Escalon police say the estimate to repair the poles was set for sometime tomorrow.

In Manteca, a portion of a fence at a home was down due to the gusty winds. Trashcans along one street were tossed around all over the sidewalk.

Blanca Ramos became an impromptu trashcan wrangler.

"Oh my gosh, so difficult, so difficult. I just want to pick it up - my neighbor's trashcan - but I was already late for work too," said Ramos.

A short distance away, part of one front yard became an unwanted lake front property. The homeowner spoke about it through his Ring camera.

"If we have multiple days of hard rain, then we'll get a little bit of a pond out there," said the homeowner.

Power was out sporadically across San Joaquin County. Pockets of power were out around Sandman Park in Stockton, as well as near N. El Dorado in Central Stockton and a neighborhood in Morada.

Power was restored in several cases within an hour's time.

Trees came down, too. Just before noon, a tree blocked the entire roadway in the San Joaquin Delta area west of Lodi on Highway 12 at N. Johnson Way.

Another tree fell in the front yard of a home across from Stockton's American Legion Park.
