Solano County under flood watch through weekend

The flood watch will start Thursday at 3 p.m. and last through Sunday at 10 a.m.

SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. — Expected heavy rainfall is forecast beginning Thursday and has prompted a Flood Watch in Solano County until Sunday morning.

The flood watch will start Thursday at 3 p.m. and last through Sunday at 10 a.m. A Flood Watch just means people should be prepared for the potential of flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

"A Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding. It does not mean flooding will occur, but it is possible," according to NWS' website

Solano County officials have announced sandbag locations to prepare ahead of the storm.

Residents can pick up sandbags from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Public Works Corporation Yard at 420 Gregory Street. Sand will be available at the corner of Pittman and Cordelia Roads and at the southeast corner of Allan Witt Park, off of Woolner Avenue.

Sand will be self-serve and there is a ten-bag limit. Officials advise residents to only fill sandbags half full, since overfilled bags are unstable when stacked and can leave gaps that allow water to flow through.

Solano County residents can also sign up for emergency alerts using the new ZoneHaven entry. Learn more HERE
