Trees blowing in the wind in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — People were on high alert in South Sacramento after Saturday’s deadly storm, however, things calmed down around noon as many people stocked up and prepared themselves for the next round of rain and winds.

Shoppers at Home Depot were trying to prepare and buy some last-minute supplies.

Barbara Lynch said part of a tree and a fence went down at her home over the weekend, but she’s more concerned about driving. Her plan is to stay home after returning from the store.

"Too many trees falling down on top of cars with people in them. They can die. I mean, the lady down on Dillard road - I guess it was a lady, they never said - a person died in the car, in the flood. So, why take that chance?" said Lynch.

Meanwhile, the storm is putting a lot of pressure on workers who are doing essential repairs on people's homes in the middle of flooding.

At Home Depot, two plumbers said they were in the middle of trying to replace an entire sewer system, and with the weather conditions, they said the job can get dangerous.

"We've got a trench right now that's covered under a foot-and-a-half of water, and we're going to have to fight it just to get down to the pipe to see, to get the connections that we need, to have time for the glues to dry. We're gonna constantly be pumping that water out...," said Chris Manning, who is an apprentice installer for Mr. Rooter Plumbing.

They said even though a small problem may just seem like an annoyance, it's easier to deal with it now and save yourself some money and a headache.
