Officials: EF-0 tornado touches down in southern Sacramento County

The tornado was ranked as an EF-0 which is the weakest kind, with wind speeds of 40-72 mph, according to NWS

HERALD, Calif. — National Weather Service Sacramento said a "brief, weak tornado" touched down in Rancho Seco Park, Saturday afternoon.

The confirmation of the tornado was made based on "photographic and witness evidence" and was called by meteorologists at NWS.

The tornado was ranked as an EF-0 which is the weakest kind, with wind speeds of 40-72 mph, according to NWS. Peak gusts were around 80 mph and the tornado was on the ground for roughly two minutes with a width of 50 yards.

Three residences along Kirkwood Street to the east of Herald reported damages from the tornado.

NWS says no warning was issued for the event due to radars having difficulty detecting such weak tornados and reports of damages coming in "well after the event."
