CALIFORNIA, USA — 21 more counties have been added to Governor Gavin Newsom's emergency declaration to support response efforts with more winter storms ahead.
The governor added Butte, El Dorado, Fresno, Humboldt, Imperial, Inyo, Lake, Mendocino, Merced, Monterey, Napa, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus, Tuolumne and Yuba counties to the list.
It boosts the total number of counties under the declaration to 34 from just 13 last week.
“The state is working around the clock with local partners to deploy life-saving equipment and first responders to communities across California,” said Governor Newsom. “With more dangerous storms on the horizon, we’ll continue to mobilize every available resource to protect Californians.”
According to officials, the state has staffing and equipment resources from the California Office of Emergency Services, Caltrans, the California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire, and the California National Guard on the ground in impacted areas.
Cal Fire and their partner agencies have 43 crews active statewide along with their various resources. The California Guard is also pre-positioning High Water Vehicles for flood response. Caltrans has more than 4,00 crew members at hundreds of incidents across the state. CHP is also increasing resources in targeted areas to help with storm-related needs.
Six shelters have been opened in San Bernardino, Stanislaus, Madera, Butte and Nevada counties.
The looming atmospheric river storm is bringing warmer air and more rain, creating the potential for snow melt and flooding.
