Six rescued from floodwaters in Butte County: Cal Fire

The vehicles involved in the swift water rescues were left behind and will be removed when the water recedes, according to Cal Fire.

OROVILLE, Calif. — At least six people were rescued Wednesday as floodwaters trapped four vehicles in Butte County.

Another round of big-time storms is passing through Northern California this week, putting local emergency teams to work as floodwaters continue to rise.

Cal Fire's Swiftwater Rescue Team in Butte County had to use an inflatable rowboat to rescue six people stranded on top of their vehicles on Lower Honcut Road in Oroville.

The vehicles involved in the swift water rescues were left behind and will be removed when the water recedes, according to Cal Fire. Teams are urging drivers to be cautious if they must be out in the weather and remember this general rule: if you can't seek the yellow lines in the road don't risk it!

This round of rain starts to ease up today, but the damage is already done.

I-80 is still closed in both directions and there is currently no estimated time of re-opening. US-50 is snow covered and windy, but open, so use caution.
