SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A fire broke out southeast of Travis Air Force Base near Highway 12 and Denverton Rd.
Alert Wildfire cameras show a plume of smoke rising from the grassy field near the base just before 2 p.m. before it died down.

Smoke from this event is already impacting Sacramento due to the westerly/southwesterly flow of winds we are experiencing.

4 p.m. air quality readings show unhealthy levels in downtown Sacramento, PurpleAir. This smoke will move east in the coming hours. The smoky aroma synonymous with summer in California will continue to work its way into the region.
Smoke impacts will be minimal in terms of duration and should blow out of the region by midnight.
Future Smoke Forecast
Smoke will continue to be a problem for many in the foothills and Sierras as the Oak Fire closes in on 18,000 acres burned with 10% contained. Moderate to hazardous air quality levels will be present in these areas.
As for the valley, most of the smoke from the Oak Fire will be aloft, resulting in hazy skies but relatively clean air at the valley floor for the next few days at least.
