SODA SPRINGS, Calif. — Autumn snowstorms have dumped several inches of snow in the Sierra.
On Monday, a mix of snow and rain created hazardous road conditions along Interstate 80, and as the night grew colder, slush turned to ice.
Tow truck driver Bud Minto helped one driver out of a jam on the interstate.
"It's just not good to be out in this unless you really have to," Minto said.
However, down the interstate, the snowstorm was welcomed, and it served as a reminder of last year's record snowfall.
Donner Ski Ranch mountain manager Davis Bedient said what has fallen so far will make a nice base at the resort.
"It does make for very slick driving conditions, but yeah, good for a ski resort," Bedient said.
With just one or two more big snowstorms, the resort could be open within a matter of days, Bedient said.
"Mostly, we're just hoping for another good season," said owner Janet Tuttle. "It's good to have lots of snow up here, so I really can't complain, but I often do."
