SACRAMENTO, Calif. — As we transition from October to November, we will have some activity from a new stronger system.

WHEN

The system arrives close to sunset Friday and lingers into early Saturday morning. There is a chance some rain and snow will linger until noon, but the totals will get lighter. The storm will have steady rain, heavy at times, right from the beginning and linger until about midnight. After that, it becomes more scattered and light until early Saturday with some rain and snow lingering in the Sierra for several hours into Saturday morning.

IMPACT

Totals will vary, but we could see 0.25-1" of rain for the valley. Timing is in the evening but travel and events could be impacted, along with clogged drains. Early morning activities Saturday will need to be monitored for lingering light rain and wet ground.

The second round of snow is much more significant than what we saw between Wednesday and Thursday. This system will have 6-10" of snow possible at the passes around 7,000 ft. We could get at least a few inches of snow down to 6,000 ft., including more populated areas. This amount of snow will be the largest of the season so far. It will also likely create chain control conditions on the roads. Some level of snow removal will be taking place Saturday like city plowing and private plowing.

NEED

The main need is to make preparations for wet weather until Saturday. Friday is the best time to put things away if you don't want to get them wet. Clean gutters and leaves. For travel, make sure your vehicle is ready for winter driving conditions. Try to limit travel during peak rain and snow.
