SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Expect light to moderate snow over the next several days in the Sierra starting Wednesday and continuing into Friday.
WHEN
Wet and windy weather will move into the Sierra with snow by Wednesday afternoon and continuing into Friday.
Snow will generally be light to moderate during the entire period of unsettled weather, but the snow impacts begin Wednesday afternoon.
There is a Winter Weather Advisory for the Greater Lake Tahoe area with 1-4" of snow at lake level and some down to 5,500 ft. This will also happen during strong winds with gusts near 50 mph and 2-4 foot waves on Lake Tahoe.
Wind will ease up Thursday, but the light scattered snow will continue through the day and part of Friday.

IMPACT

Most of the major impacts will be related to travel with chain controls likely Wednesday and possibly continuing until Friday.

NEED
This amount of snow for the Sierra is considered light with 6-10" of snow spread out over three days. However, any travel during periods of snow often includes spinouts and crashes. Prepare for delays and longer periods of travel. Speed limits are lower in chain control areas and speed is often the major factor contributing to crashes.
Power may go out as well during the windiest times Wednesday.
