SACRAMENTO, California —
Hilary may be a shadow of its former self but will continue to deliver precipitation to Northern California throughout Monday.
Sunday was the main event for Southern California and most of the region was hammered with rain. Downtown Los Angeles received 2.48" of rain Sunday and San Diego picked up 1.82", setting the daily August record for both cities.
Some light showers passed through the Sacramento area early Monday morning and Sacramento picked up 0.03”. Considering the average August rainfall for the city is 0.02”, Sacramento is at 150% of average in terms of rainfall this month.
The Sierra and foothills received beneficial rain as well, generally ranging from 0.5-1" south of Interstate 80. Elevations above 8,000 feet along both Carson and Ebbetts Pass received over an inch with rain expected to continue throughout the day. Heavy rain over the Mosquito and Caldor burn scars is expected Monday afternoon, prompting a flash flood watch to be issued for both areas.
Stockton and Modesto have yet to pick up measurable precipitation but that could change before the day is over depending on afternoon thunderstorms.
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms exists for most valley locations Monday afternoon thanks to an influx of moisture and unstable air left in Hilary’s wake.
