Northern California rainfall totals since Tuesday

As expected, the extreme atmospheric river has brought impressive rainfall totals to the North Coast and Coastal Range, and Sacramento is finally in on the action.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A strong atmospheric river storm has brought impressive rainfall totals to the far northern parts of California, and the storm isn't done yet.

The heaviest rain has been along the North Coast and coastal mountains. Much of the Coastal Range has already seen more than a foot of rain since Tuesday, and the rain is still falling Friday morning.

Even wine country has been inundated. The Sonoma County Airport has recorded more than 12" of rain since Tuesday, and Santa Rosa has picked up more than 11".

Major urban flooding has occurred already in Santa Rosa, prompting officials Thursday to ask people to only drive if necessary. Napa too has already seen almost 5" of rain with more to come Friday.

Sacramento and the I-80 corridor have seen heavier rain today, but the San Joaquin Valley is still waiting.

We haven't seen quite as much rain in the Sacramento region, but that's changing.

Sacramento has been sat on the very southern edge of the atmospheric river this week, meaning only light to moderate rain in shorter periods has been seen so far. However, the atmospheric river pushing south is upping Downtown Sacramento's totals on Friday. Downtown Sacramento has recorded about an inch an a half of rain as of 2p Friday.

Rain has been hard to come by in the San Joaquin Valley, with Stockton getting just barely a tenth of an inch and Modesto not recording anything at all as of Friday afternoon.

There is still more rain to come though! The atmospheric river on Friday is bringing the heaviest rain we have seen so far this season to the area. When rain finally comes to an end by the Thanksgiving holiday, Sacramento will have likely picked up between 2-4". The San Joaquin Valley is looking at 1-3" by Thursday.
