SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — People are waking up in the dark and students are waking up to no school in Placerville and other cities across Northern California.
The brunt of a major winter storm Monday is coming to a close Tuesday, bringing travel headaches, the threat of localized flooding and some relief in an abnormally warm fall.
The storm will push south and east before moving out midweek. Another storm will quickly follow on its heels. Forecasters warned people in the Sierra Nevada to prepare for days of snowfall.
School Closures
The Amador County Unified School District announced that all schools in the district will be closed Tuesday due to inclement weather, power outages and danger from high winds.
Schools and districts in El Dorado County closing for a snow day on Tuesday include Pioneer Union School District, Gold Oak Union School District, Pioneer Union School District, El Dorado High School, Pollock Pines, Silver Fork School District, Camino Union School District and Independence High School.
Grass Valley School District officials said in a statement all schools are closed Tuesday.

Power utilities are reporting power outages as a result from the storm.
