GOLD RIVER, Calif. — The race is on for Sacramento-area clean-up crews.
Kustom Disaster Recovery and Restoration based in Gold River said a majority of storm damage is from trees, according to Aaron Provencal, Kustom’s general manager. One home restoration team with the company said it received more than 100 calls for service after California storms over the weekend.
Kustom services areas in Sacramento and beyond including Fairfield, Vallejo and Truckee.
“Trees falling on homes can cause quite a bit of damage,” Provencal said.
For example, a home in Newcastle in Placer County was practically split in two after a massive tree crashed through it, shattering glass and blowing out walls and windows.
“You're talking about getting engineering done, permitting, (a) lot of framing involved with the roofing repairs (and) interior repairs,” Provencal said. “So, it could be six to eight months before we get the houses back together."
Repairs can range from a small, $500 roof repair to hundreds of thousands of dollars should a tree split your home, he said.
He said the winter season and stormy weather is when a roof is most prone to leaks. A property owner should not leave ceiling bubbling or discolorations to sit too long because mold growth could occur.
“Get a professional out there to take some moisture readings (and) determine if you do have a leak,” Provencal said. “That way they can get the roofs covered and get some drying process started inside the home.”
