Wildfire smoke returns to the Sacramento Valley Wednesday

Smoke impacts continue from the Dixie and Caldor fires

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Smoke impacts continue from the Dixie and Caldor Fires. Plan for prolonged periods of poor air quality due to smoke from the wildfires until fire activity is greatly diminished.

Westerly winds pick up Tuesday afternoon and evening, with the strongest winds over the Coast Range and along the western edge of the Central Valley.

These winds will bring smoky conditions back into the northern Sacramento Valley Tuesday night, possibly reaching as far south as Highway 50 by tomorrow. Lighter westerly wind is expected tomorrow afternoon which may push areas of Valley smoke towards the east tomorrow.

Unfortunately, smoke and air quality impacts will persist for areas directly downwind of the Dixie Fire, Caldor Fire, and the Bridge fire near Auburn. The smoke and air quality conditions rely heavily upon ongoing fire activity.
