Why are we getting warmer temperatures?

ABC10 meteorologist Michelle Apon explains why a big warm-up is expected in the Sacramento region.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The region will experience warmer than normal high temperatures this weekend and Monday. Normally this time of year, afternoon high temperatures reach the mid 70s.

Over the next few days, highs will top off in the upper 70s to lower 80s for the Sacramento region.

So why are we getting this warm up?

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, a ridge moves into the west coast.

What is a ridge?

A ridge is an extended area of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere. What this brings is warm air aloft.
