SACRAMENTO, Calif — July 6 is National Fried Chicken Day. So whether you enjoy a wing or a thigh, we are looking for the best fried chicken in Northern California. Unfortunately, National Waffle Day isn't for another month.
Let's be honest, no one wants to eat bad or soggy fried chicken. On National Fried Chicken Day 2020, we took to the ABC10 Facebook page to ask our followers "where do you go to get the best fried chicken?"
Foodtruck Nash & Proper is well-known around the Sacramento area. The popular Nashville hot chicken truck is so beloved that a brick and mortar location is opening after the founders won the Calling All Dreamers competition in 2019.

2. Kiki's
When you visit the Kiki's website, you will see "Best Fried Chicken in Sacramento," and a lot of our followers agreed. The family-owned chain first opened in December 2015. The restaurant says their chicken is always fresh and never frozen. Kiki's has five locations around Sacramento and a food truck that travels around the city.
Whether you want fried chicken or pizza, Shakey's has your back. ABC10 Facebook Follower Sam recommends the Oroville pizza parlor if you are looking for good fried chicken. "It's a little drive but soooo worth it," wrote Sam on our Facebook page. Shakey's doesn't just have one option for fried chicken lovers. The website features a full page of options and even includes a FAQ.
Fixins Soul Kitchen, located in Oak Park, was founded to bring together the community and celebrate "the rich heritage and culture of African Americans," according to the restaurant's website. While you eat there, you can also enjoy knowing the organizations the restaurant works with, including TRUE Zero waste facility and homeless assistance programs.
Richmaid Restaurant in Lodi was one of the early recommendations from ABC10 Viewer Tami Williams. The restaurant originally opened as a creamery in 1938. It closed for a few years before joining the "Home-style diner since" in 1998, according to the restaurant's website. Richmaid is open seven days a week and kids eat free on Mondays and Thursdays.
6. South
South, located in Southside Park, is Sacramento's answer to contemporary Southern cuisine. "South is traditional family food," reads the restaurant's website. "At South we are not trying to reinvent the wheel, we are just trying to express 200 years of our family’s story on a 12" plate." Fried chicken options include Petey's Fried Chicken for $17, Bucket O' Petey's Fried Chicken for $30 and Petey's Build-A-Bucket for up to $49. Visit their website for the full menu.

The food truck serves the Hawaiian take on Fried Chicken, Sandwiches, and Rice Bowls with Home Made Cole Slaw and Fried Rice.
