Old Sacramento 'Theater of Lights' and Holiday Tree Lighting | Need to know

Kick off the holiday season with the 11th annual Macy's Theater of Lights, a free event following the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony in Old Sac.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Holiday events are coming your way and Christmas is around the corner!

Sacramento is closing in on its annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony in Old Sacramento, set for the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, Nov. 27. Then, following the tree lighting festivities, stick around for the first performance of the year of Macy's Theater of Lights, a free, family-friendly event!

The Theater of Lights is in its 11th year of revelry. The holiday lighting extravaganza at the Old Sacramento Waterfront is produced by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership and hosts nightly performances that continue every Thursday through Sunday (no show on Thanksgiving) until Christmas Eve. The show features a live-action retelling of Clement Clarke Moore's 1823 poem, "A Visit from St. Nicholas," but you may know it from its more popular name, "Twas the Night Before Christmas." This live dramatization occurs on the balconies above K Street, illuminating the 150-year-old facades of Old Sacramento with thousands of vibrant lights.

Created by Stage Nine Exhibitions’ Troy Carlson, this event brings together a cacophony of light and sound. BP Productions, Associated Sound, and Emmy-nominated voice actor Bill Farmer, the voice of Disney’s Goofy, bring the show to life. There will be a special appearance by Jack Frost, and the big man himself, St. Nick, will be instrumental in lighting the 60-foot Christmas tree.
