Flex Alert issued, reduce power usage until 10 p.m.

The California Independent System Operator has issued a Flex Alert until 10p.m. They are asking for voluntary power reduction during this time of high usage.

A Flex Alert is in effect for California through 10 p.m. Tuesday. This alert was issued by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) Tuesday afternoon as the power grid started to take on more stress.

The CAISO oversees the operation of California's bulk electric power system, transmission lines, and electricity.

This is a request for consumers to voluntarily reduce their energy usage when demand for power could surpass the supply. It’s usually issued during heatwaves when air conditioners, fans and other cooling devices are being used.

Californians can cut down on their energy consumption by turning off lights, using large appliances after 9 p.m. and setting thermostats to 78 degrees or higher.
