2 dead, 2 hurt in separate Sacramento area shootings in less than 24 hours

The most recent shooting was reported in Old North Sacramento around 2 p.m. Sunday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — Four people were shot - two fatally - in the Sacramento area in a less than 24-hour stretch from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon.

The four shootings were separate from one another, with one in the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office jurisdiction and three in the Sacramento Police Department's jurisdiction. Two of the victims have been confirmed dead by police.

The first shooting was reported in Arden Arcade around 10 p.m. Saturday. Deputies said a man was shot along the Alta Arden Expressway near Ethan Avenue. The man was still alive when deputies provided an update around 8:30 a.m. However, deputies said they were treating the incident as a homicide because his condition was deteriorating.

In Sacramento, one person was left with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound along the 100 block of K Street in a separate shooting. It was reported around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Sacramento police said the man was taken to a hospital.

"It is under investigation. But preliminary information tells us that it may be self-inflicted... we're not able to confirm that at this time," said Officer Anthony Gamble, spokesperson for Sacramento police.

Another person died after a third shooting was reported around noon Sunday along the 2700 block of 5th Street in Sacramento. Sacramento police said the 18-year-old had at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died, police said Monday.

The most recent shooting was reported in Old North Sacramento around 2 p.m. Sunday. According to the Sacramento Police Department, the shooting happened along the 400 block of Arden Way. A man was found with at least one gunshot wound, but he ultimately died. No arrests have been made in the shooting.

There have been a total of 19 homicides in Sacramento so far this year. Earlier, Sacramento police said the number of homicides was at 20, but updated that number later in the evening to 19.
