The CHP officer has already successfully completed a seven-hour long surgery to repair breaks to his arms and legs and have his spleen removed.

SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. — A CHP is recovering after a driver in Sutter County slammed into him over the weekend.

According to a Facebook post by CHP - Yuba-Sutter, Officer David Gordon is in "critical but stable" condition after a speeding SUV crashed into him on Saturday morning. Gordon was directing traffic at the time of the crash, because a railroad crossing signal malfunctioned.

Gordon has already successfully completed a seven-hour long surgery to repair breaks to his arms and legs and have his spleen removed. He's facing additional surgeries for "multiple pelvis fractures, a broken jaw, and a broken shoulder blade."

"Officer Gordon is facing a long recovery," the Facebook post says.

Officers arrested Lucas Julian Nelson, 21, and charged him with a DUI after the crash.
