STOCKTON, California — A man was shot in the face while driving a pickup truck in southeast Stockton Sunday night.
It happened shortly after 11 p.m. near E. Main Street and Bird Avenue. Deputies believe the shooting caused him to crash into the metal fence of a Stockton home.
"We believe he was shot prior, possibly near the intersection of Main and Bird Avenue, and his injuries probably made him crash into that fence," said Andrea Lopez, spokesperson for the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office says at least six shots were fired during the incident and that the shooting wasn't random.
Despite being shot in the face, officials say the 33-year old man's injuries weren't life-threatening.
A passenger in the truck, a 24-year old woman, wasn't hurt after the shooting and crash.
The truck took out half of the front yard's black metal fence before crashing into a concrete patio set. It finally came to stop on the driveway, roughly 10 feet away from the home.
The homeowner, who did not want to be identified, was asleep; it was her niece, Anna Martinez, who lives behind the home, who called her to share what happened.
"She walked out and saw everything and she was pretty upset, pretty scared," said Martinez.
The victim's name has not been released.
Anyone with information about the case can call the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office at 209-468-0600.
