ELK GROVE, Calif. — The search to find who set off two explosions in Elk Grove continues.
Elk Grove Police Department is trying to identify the suspect they said is responsible for setting off two explosions a week ago.
The request for the public's help comes after an explosion was reported inside the Jones Family Park bathroom around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The next day, almost exactly 24 hours later, a trash bin in Baneberry Court exploded. Police said they believe the same person caused both explosions.
The investigation into the explosions found them to be "high-grade illegal commercial fireworks," according to the Elk Grove Police Department.
Video caught by a home security camera shows a man wearing a black hoodie, black and white plaid or striped pants on a bicycle.
The explosion happened in front of Darius Barquero's home.
"I was asleep when it happened and the vibration of my window,” said Barquero. "Obviously, the loud sound was what woke me up, and I just ran out immediately to see what was going on. So, it was very scary."
Barquero said parts of the trash can were everywhere.
People living nearby said the neighborhood is usually quiet, until the explosion disrupted the peace.
“We have had some more explosions in the general neighborhood now in the last few nights since this has happened,” said Mike Derdowsk, who lives nearby the Baneberry Court explosion. “I do not know if it is the same guy doing the same thing or copycats."
Those impacted by it hope it heightens the senses.
"I think people should know in this area that we need to be more vigilant and pay attention. Because there have been a lot of car break ins too,” said Barquero. "I feel like people really need to be aware, download the Nextdoor app. If you see something, say something."
Police are asking anyone with information regarding this investigation to contact them at 916-627-8097 or Sacramento Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
