Kailin Harris sentenced for killing North Highlands man during burglary

Kailin Harris was convicted Aug. 15, 2024, of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

SACRAMENTO, California — A man was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing a man during a 2022 burglary in North Highlands.

The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office said Tuesday that Kailin Harris was sentenced Sept. 26, 2024.

Harris was convicted Aug. 15, 2024, of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. A jury also found a special circumstance of murder during a burglary and that Harris personally used a firearm causing death. Harris was also convicted of three counts of vehicle tampering.

It happened Jan. 17, 2022, when Harris was tampering with vehicles and taking property from them near the victim’s house on Greenlawn Way in North Highlands. Harris went into the victim's backyard, broke into a shed and stole multiple firearms, the district attorney's office said.

The district attorney's office said a Ring camera notification woke up 62-year-old Gennadiy Ivanovich Mironov. He confronted Harris as he left the property. Harris then shot Mironov twice, killing him, and left the property.

Harris was arrested days later on Jan. 27, 2022. At the time, Harris was already a felon and prohibited from having firearms, according to the district attorney's office.
