STOCKTON, Calif. — The woman killed in a Stockton domestic violence incident turned shooting and standoff was identified as Keyera Shepard, 26.
The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the woman's identity with ABC10 Sunday night.
According to Stockton Police Department, their officers responded to the 3200 block of Blue Ridge Circle for a reported domestic violence incident and a report gunshots.
"When officers approached this apartment, they were met with a 39-year-old suspect who fired multiple shots at officers," said Stockton Police Department spokesperson Officer David Scott. "One officer discharged his weapon back at that suspect."
The officer's bullets didn't hit anyone, but police said the suspect, Sim Jackson, ran back inside the apartment, leading to a nearly hour-and-a-half long standoff.
Police said Jackson eventually surrendered and wasn't hurt. However, they ultimately found three gunshot victims.
The victims included a 26-year-old Keyera Shepard, who was pronounced dead at the scene; a 30-year-old woman with non-life-threatening injuries; and an infant who was in critical but stable condition as of Sunday afternoon.
Investigators believe everyone in the apartment unit knew each other.
Jackson was charged with homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment and weapons charges, police said. He is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
