Roseville quadruple homicide suspect pleads not guilty

Shankar Hangud's public defender said a not guilty plea was entered in court and no bail has been set for the man accused of killing four family members.

ROSEVILLE, California — A Roseville man accused of killing four of his family members, plead not guilty to the charges in court Friday morning.

Placer County prosecutors said in a complaint filed last week that Shankar Hangud killed two relatives — a woman and young girl, on Oct. 7 and a third relative — a young man, the next day in Roseville.

The fourth killing happened the following Sunday in Siskiyou County, according to prosecutors. Afterward, Hangud allegedly drove to the Mount Shasta police station with the body of an adult man in his car.

Prosecutors say Hangud confessed to the killings and was arrested.

Hangud's public defender, Martin Jones, said a not guilty plea was entered in court and that no bail has been set for his client.

While little information about the case is public, Jones — a public defender with Placer County — did tell ABC10 that Hangud initially seemed to want to represent himself.

After agreeing to speak with Jones, he agreed to representation, Jones said.

When asked if there would be a gag order on the case, which would mean no details could be discussed with the public, Jones said a decision had not yet been made.
