SACRAMENTO, Calif — Authorities with California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) arrested a man for selling alcohol to a 19-year-old who later be involved in a deadly crash.
Kelly Woodward of Sacramento was arrested for allegedly selling alcohol to Ainise Taimani, 19 of Antioch, on May 26 at the Cinch Bar in Sacramento.
Hours later, Taimani would be arrested on gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI charges in San Joaquin County. Authorities say she crashed the car she was driving on Highway 12 and her cousin riding in the car, Tui Talia, was killed in the crash.
ABC opened an investigation after the crash to find out where the alcohol came from. After the investigation, ABC said Woodward sold the alcohol at the Cinch Bar and that Taimani had bought alcohol illegally at the Hollywood Market on Stockton Boulevard before heading to the bar.
ABC said they were seeking disciplinary action for the store and bar. They accused them both of selling alcohol to a minor, and they accused the bar of allowing a minor to enter and stay on a premises that minors aren't allowed on.
No penalty has been issued yet but potential penalties could see their licenses suspended or revoked.
