SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office released new footage Friday of a standoff that led to deputies shooting and killing a man in January.

The shooting was a result of an hourslong standoff with 43-year-old William Wilson who was firing a gun from an apartment building at 4735 Marconi Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Jan. 10, according to the sheriff's office.

The new video released includes footage from an unmanned aircraft system and deputy worn body cameras.

Video from the aircraft system shows Wilson exit the apartment at 9:38 p.m. and walk down the sidewalk toward deputies with something in his hand, which was behind his back. Deputies ordered Wilson to drop the gun multiple times. The video shows Wilson then raised his hand toward deputies and fired one round at them before three deputies returned gunfire, according to the sheriff's office.

The three deputies who shot at Wilson were part of the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail (SED). A total of 33 shots were fired between the three.

One deputy fired nine shots and has been with the sheriff's office since 2016 and a member of SED since 2020. A second fired two shots and has been with the sheriff's office since 2007 and SED 2021. The third deputy fired 22 shots and has been with the sheriff's office since 2018 and SED since 2023.
