Woodland police search for wanted man after fatal shooting

Police say 31-year-old Joseph Dyer is wanted for murder and "should be considered dangerous."

WOODLAND, Calif. — Woodland police are looking for 31-year-old Joseph Dyer, the main suspect in a fatal Woodland shooting early Tuesday morning.

The Woodland Police Department describes Dyer as a man with brown hair and brown eyes, standing at roughly 5'10" and weighing 187 pounds. Police say he's wanted for murder and "should be considered dangerous."

The shooting happened in the 800 block of Ashley Avenue around 1 a.m. and left a man in his 30s dead in the backyard. Police say they detained 31-year-old Rigoberto Torres around 4 p.m. Tuesday and searched his home where they found two rifles, one of which they believe "was the murder weapon." Forensic testing is underway to verify.

Torres was later arrested on suspicion of murder and possessing the rifles. While he's being held in the Yolo County Jail, police are still looking for Dyer, who they believe shot the victim after getting the rifle from Torres.

Anyone with information about Dyer's whereabouts is encouraged to contact police at 530-666-6612. Police discourage anyone trying to approach or detain Dyer in any way.

No other information is available at this time.
