2 men arrested for arson after setting fires on Sacramento State campus, police say

One of the men was arrested Tuesday and the second was arrested Wednesday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Two men are in custody after investigators say they set two fires on Sacramento State's campus Sunday night.

According to a news release from the university, 23-year-old Brandon Reyes-Rodriguez was arrested on the 1900 block of J Street Tuesday night. 

Then, on Wednesday, arson and bomb investigators arrested 26-year-old Miguel Ortiz on the 7700 block of College Town Drive.

The university says the two suspects are not associated with them and they were taken to the Sacramento County Main Jail.

CASE HISTORY

According to a news release from the police department, the two men lit clothing on fire underneath a metal bench between the Hornet Bookstore and University Union around 9:45 p.m. Sunday.

Then, a few minutes later, they were seen lighting an object on fire inside a trash can next to the bus stop on State University Drive.
