2 Folsom businesses close on Sutter Street within days of each other

Choose Folsom, the city’s chamber of commerce, says although two businesses have left, they have a long list of people wanting the open spots.

FOLSOM, Calif. — Two businesses on Folsom’s famed Sutter Street are closing in quick succession.

Sweet Dozen Cones shut its doors earlier in the month, and J. Wild’s BBQ served its last customers Tuesday night.

Gloria Cunningham is the owner of Full Sol Market. She’s had the storefront for three years and it’s two doors down from the now-closed ice cream shop.

“We are super sad to see them go, (Sweet Dozen) Cones was open for six years,” said Cunningham.

The ice cream shop says it just never financially recovered from the pandemic. Owner Mindy Le told ABC10 on Aug. 1 the business never financially recovered from COVID; the shop employed 10 people.

“I have felt the rising costs of things. Shipping is an issue… just everything, everything is more expensive,” said Cunningham.

J. Wild’s opened in Chicago Fire’s place in April 2020. The owners, Sammy and James Youmans, cited financial reasons and a desire for more family time as a reason for closing.

“Very sad to see them go. They are a young family with a new baby, so we completely understand. There is already a new restaurant coming in — an Italian restaurant,” said Cunningham.

Choose Folsom, the city’s chamber of commerce, told ABC10 that although two businesses have left, they have a long list of people wanting the open spots.

“It is unfortunate when a business closes however, we found we have 75 new business license lists in July alone, more businesses are opening than closing in Folsom,” said Shannon Robb-Bundalian, vice president of Strategic Partnerships with Choose Folsom.

The Folsom Historic District hosts 24 events a year to bring in customers. The chamber hosts four networking events a month for businesses. They also provide marketing.

“We understand it is an active of bravery to start a business here in California, but Choose Folsom is here as a resource,” said Robb-Bundalian.

Choose Folsom and the Historic District have a ton of upcoming events to drive business. The next one is Ladies Night Out on September 19.
