Placer County dealing with power outages, flooding caused by storm

PG&E's outage map shows a total of 20,000 PG&E customers in Placer County were without power Monday night.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — Placer County residents are continuing to feel the impacts of Sunday’s high winds and stormy conditions.

Some communities in Placer County were still without power Monday night, including nearly 10,000 PG&E customers in Rocklin.

Strong winds took down trees and power lines.

"I still have trees down in my backyard and no power," said Lincoln resident Adam Lolmaugh. "This whole giant tree cracked in half so it was hanging over the cars."

Lolmaugh has lived in Lincoln for about 20 years. He lost power as a storm system came through the area over the weekend, bringing strong winds and rain.

While much of the widespread power outages in Lincoln were restored by Monday night, about 500 residents are still without power in Lincoln.

PG&E's outage map shows a total of 20,000 PG&E customers in Placer County with outages as of 8pm Monday night.

"We're continuing to work to restore power to customers however with the extensive damage it's a lot of small outages and it's going to take a lot of work to get to, so we are largely still in the assessment phase," said Paul Moreno, a PG&E spokesperson.

Moreno said crews restored power to 9,000 customers in Placer County as of Monday afternoon.

He said they are bringing in more crews and contractors to high impact areas to restore power there as well.

In Auburn, some residents are dealing with another challenge brought on by this storm: flooding.

"It's a mess," said Bill Beinbrech from Auburn. "Water had such a force on it that it was just moving. It had some volume to it, and it came through here."

Beinbrech lives at the Auburn Villa senior apartments.

He said early Monday morning water came flowing into the parking lot and down into apartments below, displacing several residents.

He told ABC10 this isn't the first time. Beinbrech said his apartment and neighboring units flooded just a couple months ago.

"Some of the people were moving back in and they got flooded out again," he said.

Beinbrech said neighbors who were displaced have been put in hotels in the meantime.
