Brent Clifford arrest and Patricia Portella-Wright disappearance: Timeline

The son of Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer Doug Clifford was wheeled into Placer County Superior Court Friday.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — Brent Chandler Clifford, a Placer County murder suspect and the son of Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer Doug Clifford, made his first appearance in court Friday.

Clifford was seen in a wheelchair as he made his way into Placer County Superior Court to face felony identity theft charges, which is what ultimately led to his arrest in Portola.

His bail was set at $55,000 on the identity theft charges, but because he was booked on a charge of murder, he cannot bail out.

Here’s a timeline into the disappearance of his girlfriend, Patricia Portella-Wright, who he’s accused of killing.

Sunday, August 4

Patricia Portella-Wright was reportedly last seen with Brent Clifford, according to law enforcement.

Thursday, August 8

Prosecutors say this is the day the identity theft charges come into play. Clifford is accused of using Portella-Wright's bank access cards with the value of the fraud exceeding $950.

Friday, August 9

Portella-Wright is then reported missing after failing to show up for work.

Her boyfriend, a person of interest in both her disappearance and a Reno homicide, was arrested Wednesday

Sunday, August 11

The Reno Police Department says officers responded to the 1300 block of Keystone Avenue in Reno. They found the body of 68-year-old William Andrews, who had been shot and killed.

Wednesday, August 14

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office identifies Clifford as a person of interest in Portella-Wright’s disappearance and the Reno homicide.

Hours later, Clifford is arrested on identity theft charges in Portola. Law enforcement says he was in a red 2003 Chevrolet Blazer belonging to William Andrews. He’s taken to the Placer County Jail.

Thursday, August 15

Law enforcement activity closes Highway 431, commonly known as Mount Rose Highway, in Nevada’s Washoe County. Officials later say they found a body down a steep embankment believed to be Portella-Wright and say there was “apparent foul play.”

Clifford is then booked on suspicion of homicide, and formally named as a suspect in the Reno homicide case.

Friday, August 16

Clifford makes his first appearance in court, though it’s only for the identity theft charges leading to his Portola arrest.

Friday's appearance was continued because only the identity theft charges were ready and his public defender needed time to review them. Prosecutors told ABC10 they hope to arraign him on a murder charge Monday.
