Police remove 4 tons of garbage from nightmare neighbor in Fairfield

Neighbors complained of trash, alleged drug use, vermin, fights and needles left on the street for several months.

FAIRFIELD, Calif — There goes the neighborhood.

Neighbors say one eye-sore of a house on the 200 block of Atlantic Avenue has brought their Fairfield community down.

On Tuesday, the city's code enforcement team went in with an abatement warrant and came out with four tons of trash — or about 8,000 pounds. The unit also towed junk cars from the back and side yards, which authorities say was also being used as one large outhouse despite the home having garbage and water services.

"The trash was insane," said Donique Williams, who saw the pictures the day after. It just so happens, Williams and his roommate were moving in just four doors down. They say, they wish they had known beforehand.

"We were excited to move in, and now that's downing — like a negative impact," Williams said.

Ironically, a neighborhood watch sign is posted outside the home, right across from the Public Safety Academy, which teaches children in grades 5-12.

Police have been fielding complaints since last June — specifically for alleged drug use, fights, vermin, and trash and needles left on the street.

"I have a daughter due in like two months, that's pretty wild," said Jacob Freeland, one of the roommates moving into the neighborhood. He said he’ll keep an eye out.

An ABC10 crew was also threatened by people at the home. About a dozen people could be seen walking in and out of the house in the span of an hour, many staying mum about why they were there.

Off-camera, neighbors told ABC10 that questionable people go in and out of the house at all hours of the day.

Fairfield Police said the violations at the home were a code enforcement issue. Police had to give the homeowner time correct the violations. When they didn't, that's when they were able to go in with an abatement warrant.
