Folsom’s new Sutter Health facility moves construction to 2025. Here’s what it will offer

The 106,500-square-foot facility will feature specialists, outpatient surgery and a cancer center with its own entrance for those who are immunocompromised.

FOLSOM, Calif. — A new Sutter Health facility in Folsom, first announced at the mayor’s state of the city address in January, was approved last month by the city’s planning commission.

The three-story, $145 million Sutter Folsom Ambulatory Care Complex located at the northwest corner of East Bidwell Street and Iron Point Road was approved in a 6-0 vote. Construction is slated to begin early spring 2025, and completion is planned for 2026, according to the health care company.

“The new Sutter Folsom Care Complex is another example of how we are expanding to meet the healthcare needs of Folsom and the surrounding communities and to support economic development in the region,” said Warner Thomas, president and CEO of Sutter Health.

The 106,500-square-foot facility will host specialists including Sutter Medical Group oncologists, OB-GYNs, neurologists, cardiologists, orthopedists, ENTs and urologists, the hospital said. It will feature an urgent care with in-house imaging and lab services.

Sutter will keep and expand its primary care center roughly one mile away at 2575 East Bidwell St., according to Dr. Peter Hull, chief medical officer of Sutter Health in the greater Sacramento region. The current urgent care at that site will move to the new facility where it will be larger and connected to imaging, making for a more one-stop-shop experience for patients.

“We are planning to double our primary care footprint there to make it easier for our patients and the community to access primary care and pediatric appointments,” Hull said. “We will co-locate all of our imaging services next to the Sutter Urgent Care, so if you come to us with a sprained ankle in the evening, we will not only have a doctor to see you, but we will also be able to bring you next door to have the imaging done.”

What else does it feature?

The company said the complex’s outpatient surgery center serves as its centerpiece, and specialty physicians and general surgeons will use the space for same-day procedures.

Another highlight is its cancer center including an infusion center and radiation services, the hospital said. It will have its own entrance, aiding with infection control for those immunocompromised.

“We believe strongly that patients going for cancer treatment should not have to travel far for care,” Hull said. “With the Sutter Cancer Center in Folsom, you'll be able to see a medical oncologist who will help you plan out how we're going to tackle your cancer diagnosis. Then, if you need to undergo chemo, infusion and radiation therapy centers are here so you won't have to travel.”

Sutter said it’s partnering with the property owner, Elliott Homes, for complex construction. It’s part of a larger Broadstone development including the Palladio shopping center, commercial offices and thousands of homes.

The new facility also broadens and improves Sutter Health’s health care accessibility and quality in the greater Sacramento region and across Northern California, according to the company.
