'Very sad, broken': Relatives remember family killed in Stockton arson

The manhunt for the accused triple murderer continues. Police say he's considered dangerous.

STOCKTON, Calif. — As the manhunt for an alleged triple murderer in Stockton continues, a family is grieving, fundraising and calling for justice.

Speaking in Spanish and fighting through tears, Guillermo Gutierrez was heartbroken and pleading for justice.

"Someone has to know where he is," said Guillermo. "Just they don't want to say (anything)."

Guillermo is talking about 59-year-old Jose Carmona, known by nearly seven aliases, but known to Guillermo as the man who allegedly killed his 33-year-old daughter Lizbeth Josefina Gutierrez and two of her young sons Tuesday morning.

"They came here in February or March," said Guillermo.

He says Lizbeth and Carmona were in a relationship for a few years and just moved to Stockton from Texas months ago.

Guillermo, Lizbeth and her three kids were living together in an RV on Visalia Court near Harbor Street. Guillermo had just left for work early Tuesday morning when he said the unimaginable happened.

Police say Carmona lit the family's RV on fire while Lizbeth and the boys were sleeping inside around 6:30 a.m. Only one of the boys, the oldest, was able to make it out safely.

Days after the tragedy there are no memorials in the neighborhood where it happened because many of the victims’ relatives live in Mexico. Many of them are afraid to speak out publicly with the accused killer still on the run.

In a written statement originally in Spanish, a cousin of Lizbeth, Jazmin Sandoval, said that while the family is grieving and trying to fundraise to bring the victims' bodies back to Mexico, they are demanding justice.

"My cousin was a very noble person. She didn't like disputes and never fought. She was only dedicated to her children and was very playful," the statement said. "The family wants justice. We are shattered. Sometimes we think it's a bad dream, we can't believe this much evil. We are very sad, broken."

Neighbors, police and the victim's family hope the person behind the evil will be caught soon. Police are asking anyone who sees Carmona to call 911 and not approach him. The suspected killer is considered dangerous.

"I hope they catch him as quickly as possible," said next-door neighbor Allison Paxton. "It's heartbreaking. It's sickening to think that someone would intentionally do this."
