SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — The suspect accused of shooting and killing an Inderkum High School football coach in downtown Sacramento is now in custody.
The Sacramento Police Department confirmed Tuesday that 29-year-old Tahje Michael was arrested in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in connection with the death of Greg ‘Najee’ Grimes.
Grimes, a 31-year-old high school football coach, was shot and killed outside of a Sacramento nightclub on July 4, 2022.
Grimes’ mother, Deborah, told ABC10 in July 2023 the family would be doing something monthly in remembrance of him.
The family launched the Greg Najee Grimes 212 Anchor Foundation providing scholarships to young athletes and raising awareness of gun violence.
Grimes graduated from Inderkum in 2008 and began coaching football for the school in 2017. His coaches say Inderkum’s revered athletics program wouldn’t have existed if it wasn’t for the alumnus who always led by example.
