SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The man who killed a Capitol Casino security guard after stealing more than $38,000 was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Sacramento County District Attorney's officials said Dawan Pecot attempted to rob the casino before being caught by security guard Sean Bernal.
He walked Pecot out of the casino at taser point before the robber pulled out a gun and went back inside the casino to rob the cash cage.
Bernal attempted to taser Pecot but the robber shot him in the neck and killed him.
A casino employee chased Pecot outside where he tried to hide in his vehicle, then fled on foot before being caught by police
He was ultimately convicted of first-degree murder and second-degree robbery.
