2 men who reportedly drowned in American River while fishing identified

The sheriff's office says three men went fishing when one got in the water and was swept away. A second man tried to help but was pulled in by the current.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — The Placer County Sheriff's Office has identified the two men who apparently drowned in the American River while fishing over the weekend.

According to the sheriff's office, they are Christopher Robledocabral, 20, and Svyatoslav Danylevych, 21.

At approximately 7 p.m. Saturday, three men went to the area of Oregon Bar to fish, and two of them got into the water, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said. One of them was swept away, and the second man tried to help but was also pulled in by the current.

The sheriff’s office said it first received the report around 9 p.m. Saturday that the men had not resurfaced. Its dive team soon responded, but darkness and fast-moving water made conditions unsafe for the search, according to law enforcement. Fog also impacted the use of drones Sunday morning.

Then, Monday, the sheriff's office posted on Facebook that the bodies of the two men were recovered after being discovered downriver by the Placer County Sheriff's Office Drone Operator.

"We extend our condolences to the loved ones impacted by this tragedy," wrote the sheriff's office.
