COLFAX, Calif. — After four days of searching, officials found and recovered the body of a man who fell from a jet ski at the Rollins Lake Monday.
The Nevada County Sheriff's Office says they found Hashim Raza Rizvi, 49, Thursday evening with the use of underwater robots. Officials say he was found approximately 170 feet under the water.
“The depth at which he was located was far too dangerous for any of our respective dive teams to safely retrieve him,” said Incident Commander and Lt. Russell Greene of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office. “We and our partners are fortunate to have access to a variety of advanced technology, such as remote operated symbiotic robots, that made the recovery possible in a safe and efficient manner.”
According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, they were called to Rollins Lake Road around 11:45 a.m. Monday after three people fell off a jet ski while turning it.
Two of the three jet skiers, both women, were pulled from the water while the third went missing. None of the three were wearing life jackets, the sheriff’s office said.
Multiple agencies assisted in the multi-day search.
“We are saddened by this loss of life but are grateful our teams were able to recover him and bring closure to his family,” added Lt. Greene.
