Modesto woman dies after being found covered in burns

WEST MODESTO, Calif. — A Modesto woman found covered in burn injuries on the Fourth of July has died.

According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, 52-year-old Andrea Benning died Saturday.

Deputies and the fire department responded to a call of a person on fire at a home on the 1900 block of Robertson Road Thursday afternoon.

Upon arrival, they found Benning with burns on more than 80% of her body. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital before being airlifted to a burn center in Sacramento.

Several people have been interviewed about the fire and detectives are trying to figure out if the fire was accidental or intentional.
